APAC's supplement manufacturing in 2024 embraces innovation, health trends, and diverse formulations for holistic wellness and specific needs.
FREMONT, CA: Worldwide, there is a rising emphasis on holistic wellness, driven by a growing awareness among consumers regarding the significance of physical and mental well-being for optimal health. The primary motivation for individuals globally to pursue a healthier lifestyle is to feel well. This shift is evident in adopting practices such as increased sleep and exercise, stress management, and dietary modifications, reflecting a proactive commitment to overall wellness. Additionally, there is a notable interest among consumers in supplements that can contribute to supporting their holistic wellness journey.
Botanicals
A return to conventional, natural treatments like botanicals, which are seen as a safer alternative with a lower chance of side effects, is another aspect of the trend toward holistic wellness. Approximately one in three consumers are interested in using botanicals to improve mood and mental well-being, and nearly half of consumers believe that botanical substances are useful. Historically used to help the body better adapt to stress, adaptogenic herbs (including ashwagandha, Rhodiola, and ginseng) and mushrooms (such as lion’s mane, cordyceps, and reishi) are among the fastest-growing botanical groups. These chemicals are included in recently released supplements intended to improve immune function, vitality, mental clarity, balance, and even sleep.
Mood, Stress and Wellbeing
One notable trend in the supplement business is the growing emphasis on mental wellbeing. When it comes to supplement launches during the past five years, brain-mood health claims are the second most common worldwide (after immune health), appearing in about 25 percent of new supplements. Younger generations are also following this trend, with Millennials and Gen Z demonstrating a particular emphasis on mental health.
Concerns regarding mental health account for around a third of these generations' desire for a healthy lifestyle, more than those of Gen X and Boomers. Furthermore, vast majority of consumers globally have implemented methods in the last year to improve their mental and emotional health, including increased activity, dietary changes, and supplement use.
Energy
New supplement releases with brain-mood health claims frequently highlight energy/stamina at the same time, indicating a significant convergence of these two factors. The third most common is energy/stamina claims, which make up a third of recent supplement releases in Europe, respectively. Gummies are becoming an increasingly popular format for new energy supplements since they are a fun and easy way to get a boost of energy whenever need it. B vitamins are frequently used in energy supplement formulations, along with natural caffeine sources like guarana and botanicals like ginseng. Around the world, 40 percent of supplement consumers look for products that increase energy, and Millennials are the group most interested in this area.
Skin Health
Over the previous five years, the global market for supplements that support healthy skin has grown significantly, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23 percent. New skin health supplements are found to include the highest concentration of vitamin C, followed by vitamin B7 (biotin), and lesser amounts of magnesium, vitamin E, and other B vitamins. Remarkably, the selection of flavors available for these supplements is expanding; orange has surpassed lemon as the most popular in recent releases, with a consistent rise also shown in strawberry, red raspberry, and peach.
Female- Focused
Supplements for women's health and wellness, particularly those catering to specific life stages, are becoming a big deal with a lot of promise. Over the previous five years, there has been a notable increase in the global market share of supplements with claims related to women's health and pregnancy/breastfeeding. These supplements provide vital nutrients like iron and calcium, as well as symptom alleviation, and address a variety of needs like menstruation, menopause, and maternal health. Modern supplements targeted towards women contain components that improve mood, promote sleep, and reduce inflammation, in addition to fundamental nutrients. Considering the variety of supplements that women use for health, formulas with ingredient combinations for all-around support are quite beneficial.
Embracing advancements and staying attuned to market dynamics, APAC’s supplement manufacturing sector is positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of global wellness through its commitment to quality, innovation, and meeting the evolving preferences of health-conscious consumers.
