Making Food Brands More Human

Authentic Engagement Champion

Social media gives your business a chance to show off the humanity of your brand in a way we’ve never seen before. The power of social media is that it gives a human face and personality to your business.

You are no longer just the pizza shop that opened in town. You are your own unique story: a family recipe that has been passed down, a dream project that you just started, or a passion that you’ve spent years building.

Social media gives you the opportunity to share the most unique and raw thing about yourself, your own personality and story. And if your story means something to you, chances are it will mean something to someone else.

It doesn’t need to be perfect. In fact, I think the opposite is often more powerful. Social media gives food and beverage brands the opportunity to share a raw, authentic expression of who they are. That authenticity is what creates meaningful connections with an audience and turns customers into people who genuinely care about your brand.

From Engagement to Lasting Loyalty

Social media gives brands the opportunity to have a twoway conversation with their audience. Respond to comments, answer questions, remember your regulars, and show appreciation when people take the time to interact with you.

For food and beverage brands especially, loyalty comes from making people feel like insiders. Give your followers a behind-the-scenes look at the business, highlight new specials, share staff stories, and give your audience reasons to keep coming back. You can also use social media to create excitement around new menu items, events, or limited-time offerings.

The most important thing is consistency. One great post might get someone’s attention, but consistently showing up, engaging with your community, and giving people a reason to care about your brand is what builds a lasting relationship.

Celebrating the People Behind the Business

Storytelling is a huge tool for strengthening a brand’s identity. Founder stories are always a big hit on social media. When an owner shares their story, their goals, their wins, and even their failures with an audience, it builds trust and gives people a reason to care about the business on a deeper level.

“ For food and beverage brands especially, loyalty comes from making people feel like insiders. Give your followers a behind-thescenes look at the business, highlight new specials, share staff stories, and give your audience reasons to keep coming back. “

It can be as simple as showing off a new piece of equipment and sharing what it means for you and your business. Those small, authentic moments help customers understand the people and passion behind the brand.

When it comes to community building, I think Facebook is one of the best tools for connecting with your local community. Think about it: if someone in your town hears a loud bang or the power goes out, one of the first places they may go is Facebook to see what’s happening in their community. Local Facebook groups and town pages can be incredibly powerful.

Food and beverage brands should take advantage of those communities by sharing simple staff photos, highlighting anniversaries and milestones, supporting other local businesses, and celebrating the people and events that make their community unique.

Letting Customers Tell the Story

The emerging trend that I think is making the biggest impact right now is user generated content. When people are looking for a new place to eat or something new to try, they are increasingly turning to TikTok and Instagram for recommendations, whether they’re traveling or looking for somewhere nearby.

When your business becomes a main talking point on someone’s personal page, whether through a review, recommendation, or a video of their experience it can introduce your brand to an entirely new audience in a way that feels much more authentic than traditional advertising.

Influencer marketing is another powerful way to reach new customers. Inviting local creators to try your food and share their genuine experience can put your brand in front of an audience that may have never discovered you otherwise. The key is making the experience feel authentic rather than overly scripted or like an advertisement.

Experiment, Learn, and Keep Evolving

The best way to grow your brand through social media is to be open to trying different things. Post often, experiment with different types of content, and keep track of what performs well. Pay attention to what your audience engages with and what gets shared. Once you find a format or style of content that works, keep developing it and find new ways to make it your own.
